The Paradiso Pass Multimedia Gallery
At the Paradiso Pass, at an altitude of 2,600 metres above sea level, a tunnel carved into the granite by soldiers during the First World War hosts “Sounds and Voices of the White War”, an evocative multimedia exhibition dedicated to the Great War. Along the 60‑metre tunnel, sound installations, interactive panels, and wartime relics found in the area by Vermiglio native Emilio Serra recount life on the front between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro‑Hungarian Empire. The whistle of the wind, bursts of machine‑gun fire, echoes of bombardments, the sound of an accordion, voices of soldiers, Emperor Franz Joseph’s proclamation, and the order to evacuate Vermiglio: sounds and testimonies that bring visitors back to the years when the tunnel offered shelter from the cold and enemy fire.

How to reach the tunnel
The multimedia installation can be reached from the Tonale Pass with the Paradiso Cable Car, which ascends to the Paradiso Pass. From the arrival point, it is only about 50 metres on foot: the entrance is on the right. The main tunnel is wide, well-lit and accessible to everyone, provided they have clothing and footwear suitable for high‑altitude environments. An internal staircase leads to a second tunnel dating back to the First World War, used by soldiers as an observation point over the Tonale area.
Walking through history
“Sounds and Voices of the White War” is also a stop along two itineraries that explore the First World War sites around the Paradiso Pass. Here, an orientation board also allows visitors to identify the surrounding peaks, from the Adamello‑Presanella mountain group to the Ortles‑Cevedale range. The second itinerary develops on the Lombardy side: it starts from Montozzo and reaches the Passo Lagoscuro military village, passing through Bleis and Tonale, then climbing towards the Paradiso Pass, Dosso di Casamadre, and the Path of Flowers. This final section is a high‑altitude equipped route with suspended wa
